Hi all just started my first brew using the app with an American Pale Ale
Recognises the ale in the app but the droid window says custom instead of ale
    Is this normal

Great choice as a starter, by far probably the best starting point and don't think I've come close to any other pale ale out there.

Completely normal though, I wondered the same thing when I first kicked off a brew.

I was expecting it to say 'Ale' but not the case.

I kicked the Neder Lager off yesterday and still says 'Custom' on the screen despite it being a lager.

I asked the same question when doing my first brew.
Maybe BrewArt need to make it clearer that the Droid will state custom when brewing a print.
Should do this now before US release.

A Brewprint is a custom setup brew, each Brewprint has its own setup so that's why it says custom. The only time you will see Ale or Lager is if you choose the standards settings yourself when doing your own custom brew.

What brew was it ? 4 days is pretty quick for most brews but a couple do finish in under 5, it should be ok to keg but you can always leave it at kegging temp for 2 days to give it extra time.
